Racing Horses

For short distances or long 100-mile endurances, racing horses is one of mankind's most ancient sports originating about 4500 B.C. among nomadic tribesmen. The first Olympic games with chariot races like modern day harness racing took place and later became popularized as the "The Sport of Kings and Nobility" for thousands of years. Horse racing became a profession during Queen Anne's reign. Matched races yielded to spectator betting. Racing courses emerged all over England, offering increasingly larger purses to attract the best competition. Today, races exist primarily as a major setting for legalized gambling.

Riding Horses

Riding horses Western or English style involves horse safety issues, equipment, and riding etiquette. Students of all body builds and athletic ability can be successful riders. Many breeders breed their horses for specific results albeit a smooth gait, head carriage, sure footedness, or stamina.

In pleasure riding, livestock handling, racing, hunter-jumper, or militia, horses have been transports for man dating back to 30,000 B.C. as depicted in hieroglyphics, and remain a sport, conveyor and companion.

Performance & Sport Horses

This group of horses include the equine athlete of outstanding all-around ability whose influence is felt in many sport horse activities far beyond the realm of racing. In the hunter/jumper show ring, in dressage, eventing, endurance competitions and rodeo events, the breed's exceptional athleticism has been widely sought and respected. Both the influence of the Thoroughbred on their warmblood counterparts and vice versa has become quite noticeable.

Changes to the Performance Horse Registry (PHR) have included the ability of the warmblood owners to now register their animals with the PHR. Previously the warmbloods were only eligible to be recorded with the PHR.  All horses are now eligible for registration with the PHR to help develop a comprehensive database of all breeds, their pedigrees and influences upon each other.
